A Legacy
At Pirate Shellfish, we proudly carry on a family tradition of sustainable oyster farming in the pristine waters of Blackfish Creek, Wellfleet. Our founder, Clint Austin, learned the art of shellfishing from his mother, Barbara, and has built a thriving farm that blends innovation with time-honored techniques.
We’ve spent years perfecting our craft, committed to sustainable aquaculture. Using both a rack-and-bag system and a unique reef-building approach, Pirate Shellfish produces premium oysters. Known for their clean taste and firm texture, our oysters reflect a deep connection to Wellfleet’s legendary waters and a vision for a future where generations of oyster farmers can continue this tradition.
Pirate Shellfish
Pirate Shellfish draws its inspiration not only from our founder’s adventurous spirit, but from the history of Wellfleet itself.
Sam Bellamy, famously known as the “Prince of Pirates,” once called Wellfleet home. Bellamy and his crew roamed the seas in the early 1700’s, capturing ships and treasures. Legend has it that Bellamy’s ship, the Whydah, sank off the coast during a violent storm, and its wreckage, discovered centuries later, revealed untold riches.
